Asawase, Kumasi, Ghana – January 20, 2025

In a significant interfaith engagement, the Muslim Relations and Stewardship Director of Mid Ghana Union Conference, Pr. Andrews Owusu Nyarko, was invited to speak at the Asawase Central Mosque as part of a sex education program organized by the Muslim Family Counseling Services (MFCS). The event aimed to equip Muslim leaders with knowledge on sexual health and development, enabling them to educate their congregations about the natural changes young people experience.

The pastor’s invitation came through a close Muslim friend, Muhammad Bun Bida, with whom he has built a strong friendship over the past three years. The program featured three speakers who presented sex education from biblical, Islamic, and traditional perspectives. Representing the Christian viewpoint, Pastor Nyarko shared insights from the Bible while also referencing the Quran to foster understanding and respect.

One of the most striking aspects of the event was the pastor’s attire—dressed like a Muslim, he seamlessly integrated teachings from both the Bible and the Quran. This approach resonated deeply with the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the inclusivity and respect demonstrated.

“The presence of a Christian pastor who could reference both the Bible and the Quran was truly remarkable,” said one of the participants. “It showed a genuine effort to connect with us and promote understanding.”

The organizers were equally impressed, with MFCS leadership affirming their commitment to inviting the pastor for future engagements. “His presentation was insightful and well-received. We look forward to having him again,” stated one of the event coordinators.

This engagement aligns with the mission of Adventist-Muslim Relations (AMR), which seeks to build bridges between Adventists and the Muslim community. By fostering meaningful, unconditional friendships, the initiative aims to create opportunities for dialogue and understanding.

“This program has opened doors for our Adventist message to reach our Muslim brothers and sisters in a way that is respectful and engaging,” Pastor Nyarko noted. “It is a step towards greater collaboration and mutual learning, and I believe it will lead to more opportunities in the future.”

With this successful interaction, the Adventist Church has taken another giant step in strengthening interfaith relationships, reinforcing its commitment to dialogue, education, and community engagement.
